These are a few of a Hooper's Favorite Things!

We all have our favorite things, hoops obviously being the most favorite! This article takes a look at other items we really love to have as people living the hooping life.

1. Re-usable Water Bottles

Most hoopers are environmentally friendly and conscious of actions that hurt or help the planet. If you aren't, you really should be. Using re-usable water bottles is one of the best things a hooper can do. Buying bottled water is not only expensive, but it contributes to waste and hurts the environment. If you can't stand the taste of tap water, get a water filter for your faucet. I have one that lasts 35 years and the water tastes great! I don't even enjoy the taste of bottled water anyway. If you usually drink more than one bottle during practice, buy two re-usable bottles and fill one with lots of ice so it doesn't get warm as fast.

2. Portable Speakers

You may see a lot of hoopers asking how they can play music on their phones while simultaneously recording their hooping. No need for that, get a small portable speaker! They are likely to be louder and sound better anyway. Plus the music won't cut down your phone's battery life. My personal favorite is the Sonaverse GoGroove speakers. The 7 hour battery version is the bees knees! It isn't heavy but its big enough to be loud. I recommend using a USB or SD card, as that provides the loudest sound.

3. Tripods

We all see videos of people setting their phones or cameras down in the grass while they record. Often, the grass really covers up what they are doing. Or, they just set their recording device somewhere its safe, but often results in a bad background. Many tripods are tiny, light, and very portable. They make them for cameras and cell phones of all kinds. Get the shot you want and put the camera in the best place for recording!

4. Big Indoor Spaces

No gnats in your face, no mosquitoes to bite you, no worry about what the weather is doing, and no uneven bumps to trip over. The freedom and feeling of hooping outside on a nice day is wonderful, but it takes some near perfect conditions to make it great. If you have somewhere indoors that is temperature controlled, large, and has high ceilings, use it and enjoy!

5. Soft Grass

If you're outside and you're battling the bugs, it is nice to find a place with soft and nicely mowed grass. One of my favorite places is the local college, the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville. Although it has a decent amount of tiny red ants and many gnats, I often find myself going back for the softness of the grass and the even, bump-free land. I just put a dryer sheet in my hair and spray myself with bug spray. Which leads me to my next item.

6. Bug Spray

There are all kinds of sprays for all kinds of purposes. I personally like the all-natural bug sprays. They don't smell too bad and aren't toxic. Some hoopers know how to make their own bug spray or have their own shops where you can buy all natural products. I often like to put a dryer sheet in my hair to help keep the gnats away from my head. The combination of both has been proven to work well over the years. That was my inspiration for this video: Dryer Sheet Video

7. Hoop Racks!

We get really tired of trying to perfectly stack our hoops against the wall. Bump them just right and you have a hoop avalanche! It can get to be a pain to keep them all in one place. Investing in a hoop rack is a great idea! You can even make one of your own if you don't want to purchase one.

8. LIVE MUSIC!

A new flow comes about when you're hooping with live music. The volume, the sounds and the crowd that comes with it. You're likely to find other hoopers enjoying the music, too! Make some new friends or just hoop your heart out alone. Let the experience guide you. If the band doesn't mind, add a bit of flare to their show with some LED hoops and increase the crowd's entertainment experience!
