Fire Poi Head construction guide.

Supplies you will need for a pair
  • 6 ft total of Wick
  • 2 Stainless Steal Fender washers
    (I.D. 1/4", O.D. 1 1/4" )
  • 2 Cotter Pins, 5/16 x 2 1/2"

Tools needed

  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Nail (thicker than the cotter pin)
  • Sharp Scissors
  • Flat Head Screw Driver

You will also need some patience!!

Step1.
Cut a length of Kevlar® Wick 2 feet 11 inches long. Now cut that length in half. Lay wick down as shown below, leaving about a 2 inch tail on both ends. Fold one end over the other.

kevlar wick

Step 2.
Fold other end at 90 degree angle and fold over. You do not have to fold this at an angle as shown, you could just fold it right over and call it good. I do this because there is less chance for the heads to fray
after a lot of use.

Step 3.
Start folding end over end until you run out of wick. Be sure to keep it tight.

Step 4.
When you get to this point, flip the head over so that the tails are resting on the surface.

Step 5.
Fold the 2nd to last tail over one more time and tuck it in there real tight, you can use the flat head screwdriver to really get it in there good. Then fold the last tail at a 90 degree angle, (once again this step is optional). It should look like this when finished.

Step 6.
Now comes the tricky part, you need to pound this nail dead center through the wick. This takes some practice and a lot of patience. Just start tapping it through and re-adjust the nail so that it goes straight through and comes out centered on the bottom. TAKE YOUR TIME!! and watch out for your fingers.

Step 7.
After you have pounded the nail through, get your cotter pin set up as below. Ease the cotter pin through the wick and out the other side. Put another washer on the bottom. Push down real hard on the head so the cotter pin sticks out as far as you can get it. Put your flat head screwdriver between the posts on the cotter pin and bend them outward. Now get your needle nose pliers and bend them out
even further. Alright your almost done.

Step 8.
Hammer the posts flat. There you go!! That's what they should look like.
